BarliBash T-Shirts Available!
-
Jincey @ 22:20 PST

The BarliBash folks have some shirts you might want to have a look at! Custom artwork, by our very own Matt Grossman (Stormcrow), graces the back of these shirts - Matt did a great job for us, on very short notice - so check out the design, anyway, and give him a thumbs-up next time you see him around!

"But, I'm not going to the Bash!", you say? With one of these shirts, and a little time to browse the photos that will be posted after the Bash, you can *feel* like you went! (yeah, that's a bit over the top...but that's okay, that's what BarliBash is all about! ;-)

In order to receive your shirt at the Bash (or, if we're shipping it, a few days afterwards), you'll need to place your order by the 23rd of July. We'll do another printing later, if interest warrants. =]

For more information, check out the Shirt Page! [More]

Hall of Fire Chats for July 14 &15
-
Tookish @ 22:44 PST

From Demosthenes:

On May 25th, 2001 we had our first real preview of the Fellowship of the Ring. The two minute teaser was our first real look at the story and the look of the forthcoming films. This week, Hall of Fire heads into
movie-land, hosting an in-depth discussion of this recently released trailer .

Fellowship of the Ring: Trailer 1 -- dream ... or nightmare?

What's your opinion? Is it good for Tolkien fans? Is it good for non-Tolkien fans? Come to Hall of Fire this weekend and share your thoughts. Some of the trailer highlights we'll be discussing include:

The scenes at the Council of Elrond; the voice of Gollum and Elijah Wood's accent; the dialogue and how it compares with the dialogue in the book; and the visual effects.

For those who want to refresh their memory (and aren't worried about spoilers) here is the link to theonering.net's extensive frame by frame analysis of the preview.

http://www.theonering.net/movie/preview/fotr_trailer01.html

It's sure to be a fantastic discussion, so why not drop on by to one of our 3 scheduled sessions? Anyone and everyone is invited and first timers are always welcome!

All Aboard Who's Coming Aboard!
-
Jincey @ 23:42 PST

This is the Last Call, folks, for BarliBash 2001! Reservations for the hotel *MUST* be made by 4:30, central time, on Thursday, the 12th of July! So, if you're riding the fence, it's time to pick a side to step down onto. =]

We still have space available (this message would seem rather silly if we didn't, wouldn't it), and we want to fill it up - the more, the merrier! So, check out our info page if you haven't already, and contact the Bash Staff if you need any additional info - such as how to make your reservations!

We hope to see you in Chicago, in just a little more than three weeks!

Want To Say Hello To The Bashies?
-
Jincey @ 23:34 PST

We've had a few inquiries about video greetings, from folks who are going to be unable to attend the Bash but would like to say "Hello" in a more tangible manner than a PM. So, we're giving those folks a more interesting option!

If you have access to a video camera, you can make a videotape of your greeting to the Bashgoers, and mail it to us at:

BarliBash
P.O. Box 3224
Davenport, IA 52808-3224

So, with a little help from magnetically charged tape, you can send a little part of yourself to BarliBash, even if you can't manage to get there physically. Hope to screen you in Chicago, folks!

Hall of Fire Chats for July 7th & 8th
-
Strider @ 19:56 PST

After having three fantastic sessions from our topic last week, we return to our chapter by chapter discussions of the Fellowship of the Ring. This week, we cover one of the most tense moments of the Fellowships journey before Rivendell.

Chapter XI: A Knife in the Dark

A fantastic chapter, the highlight of this section is obviously the confrontation between the Fellowship and the Ringwraiths at Weathertop. But there is so much more to this chapter than just this!

For the first time in the books we see Strider take a leadership roll as the group departs from the Prancing Pony inn. We also see a more humane part of Sam as he takes the ill treated Bill the Pony from it's cruel master in Bree.

This scene is also one of the most documented from the upcoming film, creating a set of images that have most Tolkien fans faith in not only Peter Jackson as the film's director, but in Viggo Mortensen as the character of Strider himself.

And of course, this scene is the first time Frodo falls foul to the temptations of the ring, and through his actions see the Nazgúl for the fallen kings they once were.

No matter what you know are and what you've read, this is bound to be a fantastic discussion, and anyone and everything is invited to one of our three scheduled hosted sessions!

Jincey @ 00:10 PST

All interested people, we're getting right down to the wire here! We still have room, and only ten days to use up as much space as we can at the luxurious Hilton Hotel!

July 12th, folks - that's the magic date, the date after which you'll have to wait until BarliBash 2002. July 13th, any unused rooms in our block will be released, and our magical room rate will fade into nothingness.

So, if you'd like to match up nicks with faces, or perhaps give your favorite @Op a gentle boot in the rear... check out our [site,] and drop Curunir an email!

Strider @ 16:28 PST

Now that Summer's in full flight, what better way to spend some of your free time then coming to the Hall of Fire this weekend! And this week we've got another great topic up for debate.

Favorite Human Warriors

Unlike elves, humans have short lifespans, yet gave unstintingly of themselves to help rid evil from Middle-earth. There are so many: Hurin, Turin and Huor; Barahir and Beren; Aragorn; Haleth, Eowyn...what drove these characters? Who is your favorite and why?

Come on down to The Hall of Fire to talk some serious Tolkien as we explore these characters and their motivation together. We offer three sessions and newcomers are always welcome!

A Plea For Help!
-
Jincey @ 00:23 PST

Curunir is spending the next week counseling at a church camp for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and he'd like your help.

Recipients of mail are required to sing or perform a stunt to receive their mail at the camp - a rule which goes over much better when the counselors receive a lot of mail. The greater the volume of mail, the greater the "humiliation" for the counselor...and the more fun the kids have with it all.

So, help us humiliate Curunir! If you can spare a few minutes, and change for a stamp, please send Cur a note at:

Jason Wakeland
Exodus I Camp, Pilgrim Park
26449 1340 North Avenue
Princeton, IL 61356-8790

Friday, the 29th of June, will be the last day for them to receive mail at the camp, so if you'd like to join in, please try to be sure the letter is in the post by Tuesday the 26th, if you're in the US, and Saturday the 23rd if you're overseas.

Curunir thanks you!
