Pumpkin of Khazad-dûm - Strider @ 17:56 PST

Ringer Hurin Thalion sent in this image of his own beautifully-carved Balrog pumpkin, sure to scare a few kiddies this Halloween. It's only a matter of weeks before we begin to see fans sending in their snow-Ents and Santa's Oliphaunts..

Extended version of FOTR *will* screen in New Zealand! - Xoanon @ 23:34 PST
Ataahua writes: A very helpful man at Roadshow in New Zealand has confirmed that the special extended edition of The Fellowship of the Ring will screen in the Embassy Theatre, Wellington - and he'll let me know the screening date once that is confirmed. But no other centres in New Zealand will get the extended version in their cinemas.

The theatrical version of FOTR will be re-released throughout New Zealand on November 14, and will run for two weeks. "That will be the last chance to see The Fellowship of the Ring in cinemas until at least the end of The Two Towers' run, in March or April," said the Roadshow staffer (who, by the way, knew about theonering.net when it was mentioned in passing). ;)

One Ringers To Perform At Toronto Exhibit - Xoanon @ 23:21 PST
From: Jennifer White

We can barely contain our excitement about the upcoming Two Towers Exhibit in Toronto Ontario. We missed last year's exhibit at Casa Loma, and kicked ourselves soundly for the omission. We have been lurking about theonering.net for a little over a year now, revelling in the common enthusiasm about JRR Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's film adaptation, and would like to thank you for the initial heads up about this year's exhibit.

We purchased exhibit tickets for November 5, and were looking forward to a day of play in Toronto, with the exhibit at the ROM being the highlight. Of course, we were disappointed to later discover we'd miss theonering.net party around the exhibit.

But then, the plot thickened....

My partner Robert is an enthusiastic collector of movie memorabilia, especially anything and everything Lord of the Rings since last December. So, on Tuesday this week, he innocently began an on-line inquiry into getting his hands on some posters for the exhibit. Imagine our surprise, when an inquiry came back to us from Julia Caslin, Director Publicity and Promotion at Alliance Atlantis Films: would we be interested in playing at the Launch Party October 30? We sent her our CD and press kit, and two days of anxious anticipation later, Alliance Atlantis confirmed our booking for the event!

So, it seems we won't miss theonering.net line party and shared geekiness after all...we'll be easy enough to find at the Launch Party (just follow the sound of Celtic harp and percussion), and we've booked ourselves into the Ramada so we can enjoy some good company after hours.

Gothic Power On CD? - Xoanon @ 12:33 PST
From: Eric

I got this email from New Line Cinema. I asked the question "Where can I get the song 'Gothic Power' in the Lord of the Rings trailer.

Their reply...

"The cue "Gothic Power" by Chris Field was used in promotionals for LORD OF THE RINGS. Not sure where you can obtain a copy, but I suggest going to the source from whom we licensed it. They are X-Ray Dog Publishing and their contact # is 818/597-4859."

I called their once, the guy said they will be coming out with an album soon, he didnt say if Gothic Power will be on there or not.

Xoanon here, why not call them up and (VERY nicely) ask them to publish 'Gothic Power'! Tell them LOTR fans are dying to hear it!

Wade Center Exhibit Report! - Xoanon @ 13:56 PST
Ringer Spy Erynuin sent this report in, but between reporting on the SE screening in LA and making our plans for TORONTO...things have been hectic around here as of late. Take a look at this amazing report from the Wade Center exhibit in heaton College, Wheaton, Illinois.

From my brief examination of your website it would seem that no one has yet sent in anything on the topic of the Wade Center exhibit. The center, on the campus of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, houses a display on Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, George MacDonald, and a small number of like authors. Among the items of interest are Tolkien's desk, the original art piece of the lightening Hobbit cover, and Lewis' inspiring wardrobe. I was able to visit the exhibit while visiting friends, and have attached photos of some of the display. There are descriptions of each of each below.

01--The Tolkien section of a wall displaying info on the various authors featured there.

02--The desk upon which Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and formulated some of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

03--The accompanying letter from Tolkien, displayed below the desktop glass.

04--The wardrobe owned by C. S. Lewis, after which he literarilly fashioned the wardrobe in his Chronicles of Narnia.

05--A display case featuring a picture of Tolkien and the original art that became the cover of The Hobbit.

06--A closer look at artwork for The Hobbit.
07--A corner dedicated to the LOTR trilogy.
08--A closer look at the LOTR corner.
09--A closer look at the LOTR corner.
10--A closer look at the LOTR corner.

13--A bust of Lewis adorns his desk.

JRD Pulls Out Of RingCon - Xoanon @ 09:37 PST
FAK writes: Below is the e-mail from the RingCon organisers explaining that John Rhys-Davies has had to pull out.

much to our regret we must inform you that we got a cancelation of the actor John Rhys-Davies today. He will not appear at the convention because he has just been contracted to shoot the film "La Femme Musketeer" in Croatia at this weekend, so he won't be available for Ring*Con2002. We really apologize for this cancelation but all contracts give the actors 30 days before the con to cancel for professional committments. But we promise to do everything to replace this guest with an other actor! We are sad about this bad news too and ask for your understanding.
