McKellen seeks Burnley roots

Gandalf was always a tricky chap to track down in Middle Earth, but now the dark lords of Burnley borough council have been accused of making the quest harder. Thousands of hobbit pilgrims have visited the wrong address in the Lancashire town, according to Sir Ian McKellen who played the wizard in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. For years a blue English Heritage plaque fixed to 25 Scot Park Road, Burnley, claimed it as the birthplace of McKellen, whose father was a civil engineer and Methodist lay preacher. But McKellen, who is 67, denies he was born there. [More]

Wood joins suspects in 'Murders'

MADRID -- Elijah Wood will head the international cast of Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia's much-anticipated English-language whodunit "Oxford Murders," Spanish production house Tornasol Films said Tuesday. Wood joins previously announced John Hurt in the film, set to start shooting Jan. 22 for nine weeks in London and Oxford, England. Wood will play a young student who goes to Oxford to study but becomes intrigued by a murder that takes place where he lives. This brings him under the wing of a Sherlock Holmes-style mentor, who uses logic and math symbols to try to stop a series of murders. [More]

Trilogy Screening in Chicago

It's a great theater and it should be a lot of fun. I missed out on Trilogy Tuesday (remember that?) way back when, so I'm looking forward to this. Trilogy Screening in San Francisco

Robin writes: I just read in my San Francisco Chronical newspaper that all three Lord of the Rings movies will be playing next today (Dec. 23) at The Castro Theater, 429 Castro St., San Francisco. Fellowship of the Rings begins at 1:30pm, Two Towers at 4:45 and Return of the King at 8:00pm with short breaks in between. [castrotheatre.com]

Dominic Monaghan is slated to be a guest on 'Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson' tonight (December 22nd) on CBS. It is not known if this interview took place before or after the fire that destroyed his 'Lost' co-star and girlfriend Evangeline Lilly's home in Hawaii. The Late Show airs on CBS at 12:35AM EST.

Ringer Spy Wannabe "Michelf" writes: A few weeks ago, TORN posted a notice about BBC Radio 4 FM playing "Sir Gawain & the Green Knight" narrated by Ian McKellen, as part of its "Afternoon Play" series on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 2:15-3:00 PM GMT. That date is upon us, and here are a few listening tips for those of us in the Western Hemisphere: The time to listen is Thursday morning from 9:15 AM to 10:00 AM EST. Live streaming audio from BBC Radio 4 FM can be accessed here. If you miss the live broadcast, this "Afternoon Play" episode is archived for a week and playable here.
