MediaWatch: People Magazine

3/26/01, 11:50 pm EST - Calisuri

I'm not sure if we should be offended or not. People magazine seems to think the Harry Potter trailer is better then the LOTR trailer. Hrm...So maybe we won't be seeing a Star Wars vs LOTR attitude online, but instead a Harry Potter vs LOTR attitude. Interesting...very interesting....Thanks to Ringer fan Hob Gammidge for the scan:

Yesterday was Christmas in the Calisuri household. My official LOTR poster was delivered! Woo! So a few minutes ago, I figured I would go buy another one for collecting sake. Imagine my surprise when I went to the official LOTR shop and the poster is gone! Maybe some poor web designer (like myself) messed up a file and is now losing their job..heh. Kiwis in Middle-earth

3/22/01, 2:42 pm EST - Calisuri

When the news came out that the Lord of the Rings would be filmed here in New Zealand, there were plenty of questions about why Peter Jackson was so set on doing it here. There was less discussion of what Peter Jackson might have to bring to Middle-earth, and I'd like to indulge in some speculation - like we used to have in the early days. Not to downplay the huge impact that New Line will make on this production, but Hollywood filmmaking is more of a known quantity. I'm looking at  what's unique about New Zealand film-making and what it might have to offer the story of the Rings.

I'd like to offer an invitation to anyone who works in the film industry in NZ, or who has an interest in NZ film, to contribute their ideas and insights to this discussion. [More]

MediaWatch: UK Dreamwatch Magazine

3/22/01, 2:36 pm EST - Calisuri

It looks like the UK Magazine Dreamwatch, will have a feature on LOTR in its latest issue. We found this teaser paragraph on their website:

"The three films have been shot back-to-back in Jackson's native New Zealand over 15 months, with principal shooting concluding late December 2000. Jackson has remained passionate about the project throughout. "I am most interested in the themes of friendship and self-sacrifice in the story," he claims. "This is a tale of survival and courage, about a touching last stand that paved the way for the ascent of mankind." It's a dreamy statement for the devoted, of whose number Jackson would seem to be a member."

Thanks to Ringer fan Tim for the heads up! [More]

More on Jim Rygiel's Past Work in Cinefex Magazine

3/21/01, 10:20 am EST - Xoanon

From: Daniel G

A lot of this is pretty techy stuff, but it does show [Rygiel]'s attention to realistic detail, which will be great to have on the Rings movies. I can't wait to see what they cook up. Personally I'm dying to see how they do Treebeard.

"The actual spot removal technigue was one-part procedural and one-part by-hand artistry." [More]
