Rings Rules Oz DVD Awards

This snippet of news from early March seems to have slipped past our eagle eyes somehow. On March 7, REGION 4 Magazine and staged the Australian DVD industry's annual Australian DVD Awards. Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring ruled the evening, picking up five awards for categories including; Best Use Of Special Features, Best Audio Commentary, Best Box Set Presentation, Best DVD and Highest Selling DVD 2002. Sala Baker At Swedish Convention

Ringer Fan Torsten writes: The Scandinavian Sci-Fi Game & Toy Convention started today (Saturday) in Malmoe, Sweden. It runs until Sunday. Among this year's guests are Sala Baker (Sauron), Ray Park (Darth Maul) and Lou Ferrigno (Hulk). Sala Baker was very nice to the fans, and he happily wrote down his autograph. My friend Emil had Sala pose with his newly acquired ring replica, which made Emil very happy.

Towers Goes Second Hand

Ringer Fan LoTRFan1432 writes that Two Towers is playing at the St. Charles (IL) Arcada theatre (a second-hand movie theatre). So if you've been waiting to see the film on the cheap, perhaps now is the time to start checking around those small independent theatres near you!

Update: For the terminally curious, Two Towers was down to 324 theatres across the USA on the weekend of April 18-20. That's down from a peak of 3,622 last year!

The State News reports that a new class about author J.R.R. Tolkien is aiming to expose Michigan State University students to a different kind of diversity. "You've got elves, you've got dwarves, you've got men, you've got wizards, and Gandalf - whatever he is," said John Rauk, chairman of the Department of Romance and Classical Languages. Shore Loves Final Rings Film

Canadian newspaper, The Province, reports that Howard Shore has had an advance peek at a rough cut of the film and is already suggesting that director Peter Jackson has created a masterpiece. The Elf Fantasy Fair is Coming!

The LA Bookfair won't be the only cool event this weekend because in Holland it'll be two days of general Fantasy-goodness during the Elf Fantasy Fair! A great host of special guests such as Neil Gaiman, Robin Hobb, Brian and Wendy Froud and many, many more will come down for what is said to be Europe's biggest fantasy-event. Lord of the Rings-fans should definitely try to attend, because none other then legendary Tolkien-illustrator Ted Nasmith, actor Bruce Hopkins (Gamling) and 'The Uncharted Realms of Tolkien'-author Alex Lewis will be in attendance! 'Hi, I have a friend who is pianist with the orchestra who have just finished recording the music for TT extended DVD! She was unable to tell me much, but she did say that there was one cue featuring the 5/4 rythm which seems to be a theme tune almost for Isengard, so maybe we'll get more of the flooding etc - who knows!'

With all the Easter celebrations and whatnot, we almost forgot Andy Serkis' birthday! Andy was born on 20 April 1964 in Ruslip Manor, London. That makes him 39 today! Happy Birthday Andy!
