Orlando Bloom Iffy On ‘Hobbit’ Role Unless Peter Jackson Returns

5/17/07, 5:11 pm EST - Xoanon

Orlando Bloom seems to be shying away from playing the great elf Legolas in “The Hobbit,” that is unless his original “Lord of the Rings” helmer is behind the camera. “Who’s directing it, Peter Jackson?” he mockingly answered when asked about the possibility. Yes, we know that Legolas isn’t technically in “The Hobbit,” and to his eternal credit, Bloom knows this as well. But dedicated “Rings” fans know that Legolas is an elf from the realm of Mirkwood, a kingdom Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions get captured in towards the end of “The Hobbit,” imprisoned there by the Elvenking Thranduil. The Fall of Gondolin Reenactment in Poland

5/17/07, 5:09 pm EST - Xoanon

Richard writes: Maybe you could help spread the news about an interesting event in Poland on July 12-15. "Gondolin - the city found by Turgon - the one of the Noldors - hidden in the Tumladen Valley, guarded by the eagles. There was only one entrance leading to the city strongly guided by the residents. Unfortunately, envy and the will of possession among the elves caused the fall of Gondolin When the secret way has been given away, Melkor's armies supported by the Dragons and the Barlogs destroyed the city. The ruler has also been killed. You also can act out this history. The topic of the IX TOLK FOLK is preparation and taking part in an open-area performance The Fall of Gondolin. Anybody can take part in it. The organizer secures more part of costumes and props. On the website you can load down an incidental music for the performance." More can be found at Elendilion's English (Westron) department website. [More]

Elijah and the Killer Dolphins

5/16/07, 7:58 pm EST - Xoanon

Mary writes: I found this in Time Out & thought you'd be interested in this. The new book by Tao Lin, Eeeee Eee Eeee, features a group of dolphins who are plotting to assassinate Elijah Wood & other celebrites. How was Elijah chosen for this plot? Rest easy, the author doesn't hate Elijah, in fact, “I like Elijah Wood. I don’t want to kill him,” he says. “The dolphins probably wanted to murder him because he’s small and easy to kill. He seems pretty gullible.” LOL!! Read the whole article here.

London LOTR Musical Review & Images!

5/16/07, 4:52 pm EST - Xoanon

Mark writes: Last night I went to see The Lord of the Rings Musical in London at the Theatre Royal and thought I'd share with you a quick review: I must admit, I was very sceptical that something like The Lord of the Rings could be adapted as a musical and fit into a 3 hour stage show and after hearing poor reviews about the Toronto show I was reluctant to spend £50 on a ticket. The Two Beards Unite: Jackson and Spielberg to Direct 'Tintin' Films!

5/15/07, 6:21 pm EST - Xoanon

From The Hollywood Reporter: A week after DreamWorks picked up Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones," Steven Spielberg and Jackson are teaming up again, this time to bring Spielberg's long-gestating pet project "Tintin" to the big screen. Sources said Monday that Jackson and Spielberg would each direct installments of the franchise, which is based on a series of Belgian comic books called "The Adventures of Tintin" by Herge. It is unclear whether other filmmakers would be involved, and no script has been written. The movies would be made using motion-capture technology. In the comics, Tintin is a young Belgian reporter and world traveler who is aided in his adventures by his faithful dog Snowy. He later was joined by such colorful characters as Captain Haddock, Professor Cuthbert Calculus and bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson. The books, hugely popular in Europe, have been translated into 50 languages, with more than 200 million sold. [More]

Rumors, news and sources

5/14/07, 2:50 pm EST - MrCere

MrCere here with a response to a lot of e-mail regarding a scuttle going on about 'The Hobbit' movie. Our friends at AICN.com have been running some rumors about possible directors for the film such as Peter Weir, Stephen Summers and Michael Bay. Even AICN says to take this untested source with a grain of salt and that just isn't credible enough in my opinion. My journalism background informs me that I need two independent sources for a credible story if they are going to go unnamed. That rule gets stretched and bent wildly on the internet but there just isn't enough here for us to run with the story. However, 'thank you' to all the folks who care enough to send in news and tips, your help is highly valued, even if we can't reply or the tip doesn't make it. As always contact the news team via e-mail at Spymaster@TheOneRing.net. (And remember, it's an all volunteer staff!)
