Liv Tyler WILL be in LOTR - UPDATED

8/25/99, 8:11 pm EST - Xoanon

EXCLUSIVE!!! Hello Folks,

News has reached me from the Gods above that Liv Tyler, daughter of rock star Steven Tyler from Areosmith is CONFIRMED to be in LOTR.

Liv has been in several movies including Stealing Beauty, and Armageddon. You've heard it here first.

Personally I think her Elvish style beauty will be a plus, no word on who she will play. But given the lack of female roles you only have a very few to choose from. More info comming soon!

Click here for more information on Liv.

More on Liv:

Daughter of 'Steven Tyler' of the band Aerosmith and Bebe Buell, former model (and Playboy Playmate of the Month) and stalwart of the backstage rock scene of the 1970's, Liv grew up thinking that rock star Todd Rundgren was her father. But as she was growing up Tyler began dropping by to visit, and Liv noticed that his daughter Mia looked enough like her to be her twin. She confronted her mother, and was told the truth; by the time she was 12 she had taken her father's name. At 14 she and her mother left Portland, Maine for New York, where she got her start as a model. A year was enough of the modeling grind, and she decided to become an actress. She was offered the part of Callie in Heavy (1995) after a single reading, and only three weeks later was cast in Silent Fall (1994) - James Mangold, director of Heavy (1995), decided to delay shooting until Liv was available. With seven films in the 1993-96 period her career took off.

She has been heavily rumored to play Arwen, and I think this is a logical choice. So here is what we have about Arwen, you can follow this link for a picture of Arwen:

Elf princess of Rivendell, only daughter of Elrond, and the greatest beauty of her time. Betrothed to the mortal chieftain Aragorn II, she became his Queen when he was crowned King Elessar.

Cinescape 'Movies.com'

8/24/99, 3:20 pm EST - Xoanon

Check the latest issue of Cinescape? (September/October '99) Page 21 'Movies.com' article has a little note on Lord of the Rings and the official site.

Cinescape interviewed Gordon Paddison, New Line's director of interactive publicity, this is what he had to say.

'We wanted to (create) a place where we could start a dialogue with the fans. We didn't want to slap something together that says "Go see the movie!"'

Paddison also explains that the site will feature much more insights into the filmmaking process than other official sites.

'We're trying to setup something where we can be a conduit for official information without allowing the site to turn into a rumor mill'

Cinescape also reoports that a Lord of the Rings browser will be launched this fall, with the browser fans can access the latest news and events. As well as a video greeting from Peter Jackson!

More on Liv

8/21/99, 12:38 am EST - Xoanon

Michael Deluca likes Liv. Not that there is not much to like, in a recent email delivered to me from 'Picachu' Deluca had the following to say about Ms. Tyler:

"We all love Liv, but she hasn't been cast. What? You didn't like her in Heavy, and Stealing Beauty?"

Not sure who the 'we' are in that sentence, Mike, why not drop me a line and we can talk about, the...weather, that's it...the weather....

Three 'Rings' Binder

8/19/99, 11:21 pm EST - Xoanon

Article on EW.com

Tolkien fans are storming the Net. Ty Burr tells them: Give the movie folk a chance!

Hell hath no fury like a mass cult scorned.

I'm not talking about the Church of Scientology's reaction to the parodic MindHead religion in Steve Martin's ''Bowfinger'' (or, for that matter, about the Church of Scientology's reaction to anything). I'm talking instead about the armadas of online fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's ''Lord of the Rings'' trilogy as they stomp noisily around the prospect of a filmmaker putting their beloved myth onto celluloid...

Liv Tyler?

8/19/99, 9:13 pm EST - Xoanon

I have to remind you all that because I post something on here doesn't mean it's set in stone. Only things confirmed are those where I'm really pumped and I tell you it's confirmed.

Recieved thes from the folks at Scoop again:

Liv Tyler, star of Stealing Beauty, was tipped last night for a key role in Lord of The Rings - however Tim Sanders, producer for Wingnut Films, said Tyler was just one of endless rumours. The only two strong parts for females in the trilogy are the Elven Queen Galadriel and Princess Eowyn. Among those also named just two months before the start of filming at Jackson's Camperdown studios have been husband and wife Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke.

The Question I get asked Most Is...

8/19/99, 2:51 pm EST - Xoanon

Can I go out with you? (OK maybe not)'The Scouring of the Shire'. What are they going to do? Will they keep it in? Or not? Well David O, recently posed this question to Michael Deluca, and this is Deluca's answer:

I don't think it's out, but I'll double check...

Very interesting stuff...

Uma and Ethan? - UPDATED

8/19/99, 12:43 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

The good folks over at Scoop sent me this:

"Star Pair Tipped For Rings"

By Simon Beattie Hollywood couple Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke are tipped to be part of the Lord of The Rings when filming begins on October 11. Spokeswoman for film maker Peter Jackson Sian Clement said casting was still being finalised but filming would start in less than two months at Jackson's Camperdown studios in Miramar. New Line Cinema President Michael Deluca whose company is backing the film said it was negotiating with a husband and wife team for the roles of Galadriel and Faramir. Thurman and Hawke both aged 29 married last year after meeting on the set of Gattaca which was directed by Paraparaumu born Andrew Nicol. Thurman is best known for her role in Pulp Fiction while Hawke has starred in Dead Poet's Society, Great Expectations and Alive. Mr Deluca said Kate Winslet had declined the role of Eowyn. United States entertainment newspaper The Hollywood Reporter claimed the plum role of Aragorn had been given to the 26 year old Irish actor Stuart Townsend who starred as a con man in shooting fish. Townsend joins Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Sir Ian Holm (Bilbo), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) as those said to have been signed.
Let the message board go ballistic...

A Few Words from Ian

8/18/99, 2:17 pm EST - Xoanon

Meena, chatroom regular, sent these letters from Ian McKellen. They were sent to a friend of hers. Those who have doubts that those are actual responses from Ian, have no fear, that's really him.

dear gina rho

belated thanks for yr sweet message.

u can tell yr sister that i shall be gandalf after all

best wishes
ian mckellen

2nd:

a brief boring reply to yr questions. i don't seem to have a favorite movie-- too many anyway. No i haven't missed playing a part i really wanted and i have never had ambitions about particular parts being more concerned with other things like the director, the rest of the cast, the schedule, etc.

best wishes
ian mckellen

Great to hear he's got a rapport with the fans! Keep sending me things like this, good to hear

Not the Greatest Summer Ever?

8/18/99, 11:25 am EST - Xoanon

It seems that news of SW: EP 2 being pushed UP to Summer 2001 (to match it with LOTR) is unfounded. Episode2.net has an interview with George Lucas in the Swedish Magazine 'Expressen' and they asked the bearded wonder the ultimate question:

Expressen: WHEN WILL THE NEXT FILM BE RELEASED?

GL:From the beginning my plans where to make them with three years interval, but now I've realized that it takes four years to do a movie in reality, because the production has been even more extensive than I could imagine. Still, the vision of course is to release "Episode 2" in 2002, but as it seems today, its more likely be in 2003.

I seem to remember George Lucas on Leno saying something to the same effect earlier this summer. So it seems the dreams of Star Wars and LOTR in the same summer will not come true.
