NZ News - Figwit, and the Extended Edition at the Embassy Theatre.
Tehanu @ 11:39 am EST
Frodo's Girl writes, "I stopped in the embassy tonight, and the special showing of the extended version of FOTR on 11/11 is a chartiy showing for the Embassy Trust. Tickets are $50 a piece and went on sale today (4/11). They told me we will be watching Peter's own personal copy and it will be film, not digital. Wne and nibbles an hour or so before the film. I can't wait!

"Figwit is in a show at the local fringe theatre, Bats, this week. It is called "Live:TraNZmissions" and is absolutely brill! I saw it last night. It is 3 radio plays that Brett McKenzie (figwit), Taika Cohen and Adam Gardiner wrote and perform. One of the 3 bits is a serial that is being broadcast live on [student radio] Radio Active each night. It is very clever and very funny - and I must say that Brett is getting some use out of his Figwit fame. The local news had a bit about the show, saying that Figwit was one of the actors! ... Brett had a nice write up in the capital times a couple of weeks back, too."

First sighting of Nazgūl Steed
Arathorn @ 12:06 pm EST
Here are a few frame captures from Ringer Spy Bellerophon of the Nazgūl Steed maquette from the latest "Creatures of The Two Towers" video on LordOfTheRings.net.
These have been brightened and enlarged for your viewing pleasure, although the framing of the maquette in the original footage makes the images somewhat cryptic to say the least. It's quite possible that the intercut images of the John Howe Nazgūl Steed in the same video gives more of an accurate idea as to how the fell beasts will appear in TTT and RoTK.

New Weta/Sideshow Bookends?
Demosthenes @ 1:30 am EST
Ringer Spy Welshposeidon writes:

I am a bookstore manager for one of the largest East Coast bookstores and today we were shipped quite a treat from Houghton Mifflin.

Along with their Two Towers Visual Companion (Release Date is Nov. 6) they sent us a pillar, such as something out of Moria. J.R.R. Tolkien's runes decorate the top border of the grey pillar which stands approx. 2 feet tall.

But what was to set on top almost brought me to giggling. Bookends from Sideshow Weta which depicted the scene of Gandalf knocking on the door to Bilbo's hobbit hole. One bookend is Gandalf with his staff against the door, and the other is Bilbo about to open the door. Extremely well crafted, I cannot wait to own my own copy.

I don't know if we will be selling these in the future, or if it is only to help promote the books and movie, but my name is there to reserve it, so I'll be happy either way.

NOT the 'Final' TTT Poster?
Calisuri @ 10:52 am EST
Many fans have written to express their lack of enthusiasm for latest TTT poster to appear on the official website. (I'm personally in love with the teaser poster myself...) Ringer spy Tim sends us news that the poster released yesterday may not actually be the 'final' theatrical The Two Towers poster.

"I have a friend who works at an art gallery which also deals with posters, and according to the documents sent to him by Alliance Atlantis, the final poster will be more in the style of the final poster for Fellowship and won't arrive until closer to the films release. I can't wait to see what glory awaits us later on in december."

So there we have it.

DVD Menu: REALLY going for authenticity!
Tehanu @ 11:27 am EST
Ringer Spy Andrew did some work on translating the writing you see on the Special Edition DVD menu:

"Did you notice the runes and tengwar on the DVD menu screenshots in the article on ign.com that has just been posted? Well, I decided to start working out what they said. Ignoring a few errors and inconsistencies, this is what I've got so far:

"The third image, with the tilted Play Movie menu, has runes above which say: There and back again, a hobbit's tale. The tengwar writing below says Nine companions to match the nine ringwraiths. So be it - Elrond regards them - You shall be the fellowship of the ring!

"The sixteenth image, with the horizontal Play Movie menu, the runes at the top are still the same, but the writing at the bottom is now different, and reads Eleventy-one years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don't know half (yes, it stops there).

"In the fourteenth picture is the most interesting bit of all: A loose sheet covered in tengwar is sitting on the left-hand page of the book, and it turns out that this is Galadriel's Namarie poem, written in Quenya, and modelled closely on Tolkien's own calligraphy of it in The Road Goes Ever On !"
